<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>The assessments represented by this layer originated from the 304(l) list. This layer provides the point locations of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitted discharges for nickel that were assessed in the 2018 Integrated Report. Assessment information includes all assessments captured within Maryland's 2018 Integrated Report and are generally displayed according to Categories: impaired and require a TMDL (Category 5), impaired and have a TMDL approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Category 4a), impaired but have exemptions from needing a TMDL (Categories 4b-4c), insufficient data is available to determine if water is meeting all standards (Category 3), are meeting some standards (Category 2), and waters that are meeting all standards (Category 1).</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
This layer provides the location and nickel assessment information for specific National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) outfalls locations/discharges that were assessed in the 2018 Integrated Report. It allows user to display nickel assessment information according to the Integrated Report listing category (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4a, 4b, 4c, or 5).
The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) acknowledges the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) which created the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). The NHD was used for the polygonal areas of the coastal bays and oceans used to geospatially describe Maryland's water quality assessments for a variety of pollutants. MDE also acknowledges the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as their tidal bay segmentation file that was used to represent the polygonal areas of the Chesapeake Bay. These files were then merged with NHD and linked with the IR assessment information.
